How to Decorate a Christmas tree with Gorgeous Ribbon!

Adding Ribbon to the Tree

If you’ve always wanted to know how to decorate a beautiful Christmas tree, I’m going to show you step by step. I’m Jennifer with Jennifer Decorates so stay tuned. This is an update and a part two of my original Christmas decorating video. I’ve been known to really pack a Christmas tree and it all started when my husband and I were newly married. We had a tree that was given to us, an artificial tree, and once it was put up, my husband said that we could actually throw a softball through it and not hit a branch. So, I thought well I’m going to learn how to pack that tree and make it look like an expensive one. So, even my nice trees, I still pack them but the trick is knowing what to do first and what to do last so let’s get started and then I’ll show you what to do. Let me review how I add ribbon to a tree. First of all, I am kind of picky about ribbon. I hardly ever buy Christmas ribbon that’s not wired because you can reshape it year after year. I like to put two ribbons together and I cut them about 30 inches each and I fold them in half and then I use floral wire and make loops at the top and use that floral wire to wire them together, making sure that when you snip that floral wire, you have plenty left over and that’s how we are going to attach it to the tree. We’re going to add our ribbon to the tree. Fold it in half like that and then grab your floral wire and come in a little bit to the tree branch like so and then you use that floral wire to attach the ribbon to the tree, wind it around and then shape your pretty loops and then I kind of shape my ribbon into the tree. Now when you are adding ribbon to your tree, my rule of thumb is, I do it in a diamond shape so if I’ve got one here, then I’m going to add one here, and one there, and I repeat that pattern all the way around the tree.

Adding Sprigs and Ornaments

The next thing I like to do is I like to add some sprigs to the tree. If you look in the floral aisle, at the craft store, it’s the best place to find a big stem like this. But you don’t want to just trim big pieces and have big chunks in your tree. I like the tree to look whimsical and I like things that kind of come out from the tree. So what I’m going to do is, I’m going to clip a piece off and I’m going to stick it right there in the tree and I’m going to repeat that diamond pattern with my little floral sprigs. So I’ve got kind of a woodsy theme going on with this tree and I found these beautiful cotton sprigs so I’m going to put them into the tree also and don’t be afraid to kind of shove some of it back farther into the tree. The next thing I’m going to do is add the larger ornaments and a lot of times when you purchase them they have a really long string on them and I tend to not like that so what I’ll do is I’ll cheat and I will take a wire ornament hook and attach it really close to the ornament and then attach it to my tree and it looks almost like that ornament is growing right off the tree. Isn’t that beautiful? I add ornaments in clusters of usually two or three. Today I did three because I did two large ones and one small one in the front and I just nestled them into the tree in, again, pretty much a diamond pattern.

Finishing Touches

I like to add a big beautiful bow to the top of my tree and I throw little sprigs in the top also and I am finished.
