Troubleshooting Steps
If you open the lid of your Chromebook and the screen remains black, follow these steps:
Check for Power
Make sure your Chromebook is receiving power. Look for a small blue light indicating that it is plugged in and charging.
Adjust Screen Brightness
If the screen is not simply dimmed, adjust the brightness by pressing the appropriate key on your keyboard.
Force Shutdown
If the above steps do not work, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to force the Chromebook to shut down.
Restart the Chromebook
After the Chromebook has powered off, close the lid and wait a few moments before reopening it. The power light should come back on, indicating that the operating system is loading.
