## Zero-waste design

Zero-waste design is an approach to garment design that seeks from the outset to find a product shape that eliminates any waste. In fact, approximately 20-40% of the textile material is waste when it is further processed into piece products. This can be recycled in some way, but in practice it is thrown away.

## Martina Benešová’s artistic work

Martina Benešová’s artistic work focuses on ecological and sustainable fashion, which she designs in such a way that her garments are both waste-free and easily recyclable. She uses a minimum of haberdashery and tries to use the maximum surface area of the textile material. Even her choice of materials has its own rules – she prefers natural fibres to synthetic ones, ideally organic.

## Sustainable fashion styles

For her styles, she invents the most suitable cuts, with an emphasis on zero-waste design. She sews the designs herself in her studio in Česká Lípa and advises her clients on interesting styling of the clothes, which is very variable. She presents her models under the MYM ECO brand.

## Philosophy of zero-waste design

Zero waste design is a philosophy of life for Martina because it consists of all 4 pillars that are important to her. And that is zero waste, natural materials, certified materials and also a circular economic version of the pattern. It’s also a game for her because she can actually design a model that has no waste, where all the pieces fit together beautifully, so it’s a nice symbol of what she’s doing. It’s about being nature friendly, environmentally friendly and it’s actually kind of her life flow, combining natural materials to create simple free designs that are comfortable for the wearer and friendly to our nature.
