Misty’s Motivation
With everything that’s been happening in this new era of Equestria, a lot of mysteries have popped up. Misty is a clumsy pony willing to do whatever she has to do to get her cutie mark, even if that means kidnapping a baby dragon. But hidden within that powerful drive lies a pony that’s just as confused with Izzy as she is with what she really wants. Misty’s motivation seems to come from loyalty to Opaline for taking care of her, and also from Opaline’s promise to help her get a cutie mark.
The Significance of a Cutie Mark
A cutie mark has been the symbol of a pony finally discovering what makes them special and what they’re destined to do. For Misty, who grew up not knowing her family and feeling like she didn’t fit in, a cutie mark would fill the hole in her heart. However, Misty may learn that having a cutie mark won’t actually give her the acceptance she’s looking for.
Parallels with Spike
Misty’s story bears similarities to another creature from the past, Spike. Both Misty and Spike have parents they don’t know, were taken in by a pony who became an alicorn, and had no idea who they were meant to be or how they fit in. While Misty has a pony that just wants to use her, Spike has a pony that loves and cares for him. Misty could learn from Zipp, who can relate to not knowing what she wants and how to move past that.
Potential Future for Misty
If Misty uncovers her cutie mark with Zipp’s help, she could join the Mane 5, completing the pattern set by the six pillars and Twilight and her five friends. The future remains to be seen, but there are high hopes for Sunny and all her friends.
