Le Main Event à 5 300 € du PokerStars European Poker Tour Malta 2025 entre dans sa phase finale au Casino Malta, avec seulement 15 joueurs encore en lice sur un field de 898 inscriptions. Et côté français, seul Maxime Chilaud a réussi à garder des jetons, mais se trouve en bas de peloton avec 9 blindes. Pierre Chevalier a rendu les armes en 20e position.
Trois noms sortent du lot également : Adrian Mateos, Ben Heath et Juan Pardo. À eux trois, ils cumulent plus de 100 millions de dollars de gains live et figurent parmi les grands favoris pour aller chercher les 760 000 € de la première place sur un prize pool total de 4 355 300 €. Parmi le trio, Pardo a mis le plus gros tapis dans le sac avec 2 495 000, tandis que Heath et Mateos reviendront dans de bonnes dispositions avec respectivement 2 320 000 et 845 000.
Mateos est le seul des trois à avoir déjà soulevé un trophée d’EPT Main Event, victorieux à Monaco il y a dix ans à seulement 20 ans. Heath, lui, n’a jamais fait mieux qu’une 12e place à l’EPT Barcelone 2018, tandis que Pardo a signé sa meilleure perf’ plus tôt cette année avec une 19e place à Monte-Carlo. Le Biélorusse a souvent figuré parmi les gros tapis et reviendra avec 2 265 000 pour tenter de défendre sa couronne, presque dix ans plus tard.
Tous, cependant, il faudra batailler avec Tom-Aksel Bedell, qui a conservé son avance du Day 3 grâce à une série tardive d’éliminations. Bedell a craqué les Rois et pris le chiplead
Le Day 4 a débuté avec 36 survivants et le field s’est rapidement clairsemé. Il a fallu moins de deux niveaux pour atteindre les trois dernières tables, les éliminations s’enchaînant à vive allure.
Pawaan Bansal a été le premier éliminé, tandis que Pardo a pris un early boost en runner-runner contre Paolo Boi. Heath a ensuite sorti Emika Senda — dernière joueuse en course — avant que Mateos n’écarte Manuel Carvalho, pour ne citer que quelques-unes des sorties marquantes en début de journée.
Pardo a continué sur sa lancée en trouvant le nuts au flop pour éliminer Giuseppe Spitale en 24e place, tandis que Bedell a démarré sa remontée en gagnant un flip pour sortir Kozieja à la 21e. Bedell ne s’est pas arrêté là : il a rapidement dominé Onisiforou en 18e, roi-dame prenant le dessus sur as-dix.
Quelques instants plus tard est arrivée la main du jour. Le pro des high-stakes Vogelsang a 5-bet shove avec une paire de rois, et Bedell a payé avec roi-dame de cœur, lâchant : « I like my hearts. » Le flop a déroulé trois cœurs, donnant la couleur à Bedell et un pot d’environ 120 blindes, laissant Vogelsang sonné et éliminé.
La dernière élimination de la soirée est venue de Heath, auteur d’une couleur pour écarter Roman Stoica en 16e position, verrouillant le dernier groupe de 15 pour le Day 5.
Les 15 survivants sont assurés de 38 950 € minimum, avec des paliers qui grimpent fortement à l’approche de la table finale.
